WELLINGTON Authentic Myles Garrett Jersey , Sept. 20 (Xinhua) -- New Zealand's current account deficit narrowed to 1.6 billion NZ dollars (1.18 billion U.S. dollars) in the June 2017 quarter, the country's statistics department Stats NZ said on Wednesday.

This smaller deficit was due to a record high of 1.3 billion NZ dollars services surplus and a smaller primary income deficit, said a Stats NZ statement.

New Zealand exported a record 5.8 billion NZ dollars worth of services in the June quarter, while importing a record 4.5 billion NZ dollars worth of services, Stats NZ said.

The increase in services exports was driven by 3.7 billion NZ dollars worth of spending by overseas travelers in New Zealand, which are the largest-ever exports of travel services, it said, adding that part of this increase was due to the World Masters Games in April, and the British and Irish Lions Rugby tour to New Zealand in the June and September quarters.

Overall, the goods and services balance for New Zealand in the June 2017 quarter was a surplus of 834 million NZ dollars, the department said.

Finance Minister Steven Joyce said that ""better than expected balance of payments figures"" underscore the strength of both the services and goods sectors of the New Zealand economy.

Wednesday's result is ""one of the dividends of an increasingly diversified economy,"" with both services and goods exports performing well in the quarter, Joyce said, adding that ""the days of New Zealand as a one-trick economy are behind us,"" and the government's strong economic plan should continue to further diversify and grow the economy.

SYDNEY, April 29 (Xinhua) -- Large parts of Australia's Great Barrier Reef will likely be dead by the mid 2030s as climate change drives the frequency and intensity of mass coral bleaching events, Aussie scientists warned on Friday.

Analysing the current mass bleaching event ravaging the Great Barrier Reef, researchers from the ARC Center of Excellence for Climate System Science found the effects of human-induced climate change had added one-degree Celsius of warming to the ocean temperatures.

But should greenhouse gas emissions continue to increase, this extreme temperature will be come the new normal within 20 years and cause similar mass bleaching events every two years, the as-yet unpublished findings show.

That spells death for large swathes of the Great Barrier Reef as coral bleaching recovery rates are being overwhelmed by more frequent and severe mass bleaching events. Corals need up to 15-years to completely recover from an event.

Though the research is yet to be peer reviewed, the scientists took the unprecedented step of releasing their results early due to the grave nature facing the Great Barrier Reef from inaction.

"We are confident in the results because these kind of attribution studies are well established but what we found demands urgent action if we are to preserve the reef," lead author Dr Andrew King said in a statement on Friday.

"For this reason, we felt it was vital to get our findings out as quickly as possible."

Coral reefs are one of the most important and productive marine ecosystems that the world depends on for tourism and fisheries sustainability.

Coral bleaching occurs when stress such as heat caused the animal to expel the symbiotic algae, loosing vital nutrients and energy reserves, thus color, leading to the wide scale loss of productive habitats for fish.

The coral host then becomes weak and susceptible to disease. When bleaching is prolonged, the animal can die.

Recent research suggests corals with high levels of fat or other energy reserves can withstand annual bleaching events, which is critical to predicting the persistence of corals and their capacity to recover from more frequent events resulting from climate change.

BEIJING, Jan. 14 (Xinhua) -- The State Council, China's cabinet, will report the condition and management of state asset to theStanding Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC)annually, said a key document made public Sunday.

The State Council will submit two types of reports to the toplegislature, according to a guideline issued by the Communist Partyof China (CPC) Central Committee.

One will be a general report on basic conditions of all sorts ofstate asset, which the State Council will hand in a written oneannually and send an official to explain to the lawmakers in thelast year of their tenure.

The other will be a report on specific aspects of state asset, such as state-owned enterprises, state-owned financialinstitutions, state-run non-commercial institutions and state-ownednatural resources. Every year, except for the last of thelegislature's tenure, the State Council is required to dispatch anofficial to explain one of the specific reports to lawmakers.

The general report will include information nationwide butspecific reports on state-owned enterprises and financialinstitutions will mainly cover those supervised by the centralgovernment.

The official to explain the reports can be the premier or seniorofficials in charge of state asset, according to the guideline.

The move to establish such a mechanism is "a vital decision bythe CPC Central Committee to enhance supervision by the NPC overstate asset and an essential system for the Party and state totighten management of state asset," said the.
